Security forces received special training and tactics during a campaign to combat Maoists in Jharkhand's Palamu district.
Around 100 cadres were given special physical training and taught advanced tactics in the campaign, which was conducted by the Jharkhand Police.
The 24-day campaign, which aimed at preparing these cadres not only to fight the rebels but also for emergency situations like riots, concluded yesterday.
"Its basic concept is that the reaction time to go for an operation should be minimum. The time should be optimum so that forces reach as early as possible. For this, we are training 100 cadres," said Palamu Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Kumar Singh.
"Besides this, on the demand of police, we are conducting a refresher course in the district for 24 days in which research to physical activities, information about breathing tactics are being taught," he added.
Hardcore physical training, use of advanced weapons and protective suits were some of the highlights of the training.
"They are being provided rangers-type training. Their physical training will be quite tough and in order to improve their standard they will be given commando optical training and their physical training on daily basis is hard and extensive like BPT, TPT. They will also be taught about the tactics about how to control the crowd in forests," said Asif Khan, one of the trainees.
The Maoists, who are considered to be India's greatest internal security threat, have off-late intensified their operations in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and some areas of West Bengal.
