The market on Wednesday opened flat with the Nifty below 8650. The 50-share index traded at 8617.35, down six points while the Sensex traded at 27946.03, down 35.68 points.
Shares amongst the gainers were Tata Motors, Asian Paints, Sun Pharma and Lupin, while HDFC twins, TCS and ITC were major losers.
IT company HCL Tech geared five percent on its result.
The Indian rupee opened with marginal gain of three paise at 66.70 per dollar versus previous close of 66.73.
