Shakeel Ahmad should become liaison officer in U.S visa department: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday replied back today at the comment made by Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad on Twitter where he sought to ridicule BJP President Rajnath Singh over his statement on the issue of a US visa for Narendra Modi.

"Shakeel Ahmad should become a liaison officer in US visa department. He should leave the Congress Party and become a liaison officer in the U.S. visa department. Is US visa a certificate of secularism or is it a certificate of your performance? It has become a joke now," said BJP vice president Mukthar Abbas Naqvi.

"Be it Digvijay Singh who referred to Osama Bin Laden as Osamaji or Shakeel Ahmad trying to legitimize terror in the country through his IM remark, the Congress has always distanced itself from these remarks. What is the credibility of these leaders then? But it is clear that there is jealousy and hatred among these people when it comes to Narendra Modi," added BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

His statement was also criticized by BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi who said that Shakeel Ahmad must be speaking based on his experience and also added that the 'Queen bee' must have applied for his visa.

Earlier in the day, Shakeel Ahmed sought to ridicule Rajnath Singh over the issue of a US visa for Narendra Modi.

"I'm in Canada, near USA. Rajnath Singhji should have been informed that in USA guardians are allowed to apply for visa only for minors," Ahmed said on microblogging site Twitter.

Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, Ahmed had earlier said that the saffron outfit can now appeal to US probe agency FBI to investigate the matter relating to a letter by MPs to President Barack Obama against Modi as it does not have faith in the Indian agency.

"Letter of MPs was signed in India and used in USA. Due to lack of faith in CBI, BJP may appeal to President Obama for an impartial inquiry by FBI," he tweeted.

Ahmad had raked up a controversy last week with his remark linking the birth of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen to 2002 Gujarat riots.

The BJP had earlier demanded that there should be probe into the recent issue of alleged forging of signatures of some MPs on a letter to Obama demanding that Modi not be given a visa.

In a new twist in the controversy over Modi's US visa, several lawmakers, including senior CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury, have denied signing any such letter seeking denial of US visa for the Gujarat Chief Minister.

The U.S. administration had imposed the visa ban on Modi, who was recently made the campaign-in-charge for the BJP, after the 2002 post-Godhra riots.
