Shameful such incidents of rape are perpetually taking place in Delhi: DCW Chief

The people of north east protested against the rape of a fourteen years old girl from Manipur on Saturday and Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chief Barkha Singh said that it is extremely shameful that such incidents were perpetually taking place in the national capital.

"It is a very unfortunate and shameful that this incident has happened in the capital and that they are just not stopping. Four days back an eight year old girl was raped, and after that there was another such incident," said Singh.

"One of the accused has been arrested and the police have been looking out for the other. We will build pressure on the police and we will make sure the culprits get punished. This case is our priority now and we will make sure we get the severest form of punishment for the culprits," she said.

"The status of the girl is much better now and she is out of danger," she added.

There was a scuffle between the police and the protestors who demanded justice for the fourteen year old girl.

"Just because our culture is a little different does not mean we are loose character. It is very sad that nobody even knows anything about the north east," said June Rose, one of the protestors.

"The girl was dragged into a pharmacy and was brutally raped. Even animals would not behave in such a way. The people of Delhi and India should be ashamed of themselves," said another protestor.

The fourteen year old has been reportedly raped by the landlord's son where she was working as a domestic help.

According to the police, the incident happened at Munirka in south Delhi at around 10.30 pm on Friday. The accused has been arrested.
