Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is currently on an official visit to the United States, has formally announced the making of India-centric low yield nuclear weapons.

Sharif's announcement was made on the occasion of his official visit to the US, the Nation has reported.

Earlier, Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Aziaz Chaudhry told a news briefing that Pakistan had made nuclear weapon in response to India's so called cold-start doctrine. It was the first time that a senior Pakistani official gave an explanation of the country's decision to make tactical nuclear weapons, renaming it as the country's proactive strategy, the Dawn reported.

U.S. reports have said that the Obama administration is trying to persuade Pakistan to sign a nuclear deal, which will enable Islamabad to join the Nuclear Suppliers Group if it agrees to accept certain restrictions on its nuclear programme.
