Shivraj Singh Chouhan urges farmers not to panic after unseasonal rainfall

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan has assured help to farmers and urged them not to panic after unseasonal rainfall damaged their crops.

Chouhan had visited the rainfall-affected districts of Madhya Pradesh and addressed the farmers.

"If you (farmers) have taken loan from a bank, then the bank will be asked not to take back the money. Rather the bank will be asked to convert the loan till the next harvest and its interest will be paid by our BJP government so that you don't have to bear the burden. The money for seeds and manure for the next sowing season will be provided without any interest," said Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Farmers have suffered huge losses in this month when unprecedented rains and hailstorm damaged standing rabi crops in several states.

Unseasonal storms have badly damaged the winter crop in large parts of the fertile northern plains, most likely contributing to the suicides, and villagers have blamed Modi for not stepping in to help the distressed farmers or ensuring that crop prices remained stable.

This year, March has been the wettest month in more than a century, wrecking millions of hectares of winter crops.
