Sonam Kapoor Ahuja on Friday celebrated one year of the release of her film based on homosexuality - 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga' - and expressed gratitude to have been a part of the progressive film.
The actor took to Twitter to share a short video consisting of striking excerpts on same-sex love from the film.
The subtitle in the video read, 'One year to setting love free and celebrating love without boundaries'.
"As I played the character of Sweety Chaudhary, I saw Indian cinema take a step towards a progressive India. Although the movie was wrapped around Indian family values, it came with a story-line that's relevant today more than ever," Ahuja wrote along with the video.
Further expressing gratitude for being a part of the film, the actor tweeted, "I'm really glad to have been a part of a film that took a step in the right direction to broaden people's perspectives towards the LGBT community. #EkLadkiKoDekhaTohAisaLaga."
The film, that also stars Anil Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Juhi Chawla, has won hearts even outside India owing to its concept.
The film narrates the journey of acceptance by the family and revolves around the story of a girl named Sweety, played by Sonam, who is in love with another girl. However, her family wants her to marry a man as they are not aware of her sexual preference. She meets a playwright, played by Rajkummar Rao, who helps her in revealing her preference to her father played by Anil Kapoor.
The story of 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga' plays a major role in pushing the queer conversation forward in India.
Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the film released on February 1, 2019.
