Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday said it is the responsibility of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre to assess the plight of the farmers and provide them with timely compensation for crop-related losses.
She also said it is the responsibility of all to work to provide relief to the farmers whom she called 'annadatas'.
The Congress president's visit comes amid increased focus of the party on farmers' issues and its strident opposition to the NDA government's controversial land bill which has brought opposition parties on one platform.
During her visit, she appealed the state government and the Centre to give right and timely compensation to the farmers.
