Sri Lanka chief justice to resign a day after resuming charge

Sri Lanka's Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake will resign today a day after resuming duties.

Dr. Bandaranayke resumed office on Wednesday after she was unceremoniously removed from office by the previous Mahinda Rajapaksa-led government.

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) will today organize an official retirement for Chief Justice Bandaranayake at the Supreme Court.

The Colombo Page web site quoted legal sources, as saying that Supreme Court Justice K. Sripavan is tipped to be the next chief jJustice of the country.
