Customs officials here have arrested a Sri Lankan national from the departure lounge of Colombo International Airport in Katunayake for attempting to smuggle out foreign currency worth over Rs. 6 million.
The Customs officials said the arrested smuggler was 39-years-old and had arrived at the airport on Saturday morning to board a flight to Dubai via Qatar. He was to fly by Qatar Airways flight QR 669, they added.
The estimated value of currency seized is Rs. 6,362,746, and was hidden in his traveling bag, the Colombo page web site quoted the officials, as saying.
