Steven Spielberg not 100% convinced with Academy's big changes

Steven Spielberg seems to have a different stance on the #OscarSoWhite controversy as he revealed that he doesn't necessarily agree with the Academy's approach to increase the diversity.

During a recent interview, the 69-year-old director sounded off on the backlash surrounding the lack of diversity among this year's Oscar nominees, reports the People magazine.

He said that one should look back a couple of years where Lupita Nyong'o was recognised for '12 Years a Slave' the movie won best picture, adding that he doesn't believe that there is inherent or dormant racism because of the amount of white Academy members.

However, the filmmaker admitted that he was surprised that both 'Straight Outta Compton' and 'Beasts of No Nation' actor Idris Elba didn't receive a nomination.

Spielberg noted that he is not 100 percent sure about taking votes away from Academy members, who have paid their dues and maybe are retired now and have done great service.

Spielberg acknowledged the Academy's efforts to address the issue and doesn't think the organisation should shoulder sole blame for it.
