In the wake of the recent protests over the alleged desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib, the Punjab Government has replaced Director General of Police (DGP) Sumedh Singh Saini with Suresh Arora.
Saini was transferred to the Punjab Housing Corporation in a decision taken last evening.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier during his visit to the state criticised the Punjab Police over the death of two Sikhs in police firing during anti-desecration protests at Faridkot and asked the SAD-BJP Government to restore peace in the state.
Under pressure from several quarters, the state police had earlier on Wednesday registered a case under various Sections of the IPC in connection with the case.
