Sushma Swaraj and Wang Yi discuss matters of perennial nature

The Minstry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday said that the discussion between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi were cordial, useful and productive, and covered all issues of perennial nature and significance to both the countries.

"These talks come in the wake of telephonic conversation between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese PM Li Keqiang. This was the first conversation after Modi became the Prime Minister of India and now this is the second round of conversation with China. The talks were cordial, useful, productive and substantial. They covered virtually everything in terms of comprehensiveness and length; the entire expanse of our relationship and other issues between India and China were covered during the meeting," said MEA spokesperson Akbaruddin.

He also said that Wang Yi appreciated the newly elected Indian government by saying that it had injected new vitality in the ancient civilization, and added that China supports development in India and is too eager to engage into it.

The MEA confirmed possibilities of more than half a dozen meetings between the two countries at the bilateral and multilateral level within a year.

Akbaruddin also said that talks were held regarding increase in Chinese investments in India as both leaders felt that there was untapped potential for growth of economic ties.

The Ministry of External Affairs assured that India would discuss the possibility of Chinese firms investing into India.

Talking about the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra MEA said that "Sushma Swaraj discussed about possibilities of additional routes to Kailash and Mansarovar and also of increasing the number of pilgrims who can go on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra organized by Ministry Of External Affairs.

She also thanked China for keeping cost of yatra from Chinese side constant for a couple of years."

"All over it was a productive beginning between the Chinese government and the newly formed government of India", said Akbaruddin.
