External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will be visiting Vietnam on August 24-26, the ministry confirmed.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said, "India and Vietnam have a tradition of high level visits. The last person to visit India was the Secretary General of the Vietnamese Communist Party, who came to New Delhi last November. We also share fairly robust economic ties. Our bilateral trade is 8 billion USD, of which Indian exports account for 5.4 billion USD."
Akbaruddin further said that strengthening economic ties was the reason for the visit. He said, "We see prospects in enhancing our economic ties in areas such as textiles, pharmaceuticals and agricultural products. Vietnam is also one of the largest recipients of scholarships to India."
This is the first time Swaraj is visiting Vietnam.
