Syria has 1,000 tonnes of chemical weapons, a leaked French intelligence document has revealed.
The arsenal includes sarin, mustard gas and VX nerve agent, according to the declassified documents published in Le Journal Du Dimanche newspaper and confirmed as authentic by a French government official.
According to Metro News, the revelation came as defence secretary Philip Hammond left open the door for a second vote on British military intervention in Syria.
British Prime Minister David Cameron has come under pressure to call a second vote after US secretary of state John Kerry announced the United States has evidence that sarin gas was being used by Bashar al-Assad regime.
The report said that French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault was 'determined to take action against the use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime, and to dissuade it from doing so again'.
Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said that evidence, presented to Moscow, that chemical weapons were used by the regime is absolutely unconvincing.
