To mark the tenth anniversary of 2004 Tsunami disaster, people in Tamil Nadu on Friday offered prayers for the victims.
It was on this day in the year 2004 that the Tsunami devastated Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu claiming more than 6,600 lives.
Fishermen in many coastal districts of the state will not be venturing out into the sea today to pay homage to the victims of tsunami. Tsunami had left a trail of destruction and death which had left indelible marks of sorrow and pain on the hearts of survivors. Many of them still fear the fury of sea and images of children swallowed by huge waves haunt them.
In Nagapattinam, people led by Fisheries Minister K.A. Jayapal will pay homage to those who lost their lives in the tsunami.
In Kanniyakumari, people will pay homage by placing wreaths in tsunami memorial.
Rehabilitation works by central and state governments along with several NGOs had helped to give counseling to the survivors.
