Senior British officers under the 6.6 million pound International Security Assistance Force (IASF) project, are offering the Taliban militants bribes in order to 'leave the battlefield' for a period of 12 months.

The project offers the insurgents immunity from prosecution and 100 pounds. The aim of the project is to limit the exposure of British and NATO troops from the enemy attack, reports Express.

According to the report, the British commanders claim that they are also allowing insurgents a chance to enter 'reintegration' in order to rescue their communities back to normalcy.

Millions of pounds are spent on the project. However, there is no guarantee that fighters would obey the agreements.

Head of the reintegration project, Major General Edward Smyth Osbourne, said that the programme is succeeding with the increase in the number of reintegrates from 2,246 to 5,044 and currently there are 900 reintegrates in the process.

Osbourne said that he has met provincial governors across Afghanistan in the attempt to engender their support for the programme, the report added.
