Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on Monday expressed condolence over the sudden demise of former president A.P.J Abdul Kalam, saying that India mourns the loss of a great person, a renowned scientist and above all, a terrific human being.
"The nation mourns the loss of a great person. Former President of India, a renowned scientist, an inspiration to all, a terrific human being...RIP Abdul Kalam," Tendulkar wrote on Twitter.
The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) also paid their tribute saying, "RIP Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Impeccable character and indomitable spirit."
Kalam, 84, passed away in Shillong earlier today after he was admitted to a hospital in the city.
The former president collapsed during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management. He was in a critical condition and had been admitted to the city's Bethany Hospital.
Kalam served as the 11th President on India from 2002 to 2007.
