The Thailand Government has rejected calls by the election commission to postpone February elections.
The decision by the government came after violent clashes between police and opposition protesters trying to disrupt preparations for the vote.
According to news24, in a televised address, Deputy Prime Minister Phongthep Thepkanjana said that the government believes delaying an election will cause more violence.
A policeman was shot dead and dozens of people wounded after demonstrators seeking to overthrow Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra tried to force their way into a sports stadium in the capital where election candidates were gathered, the report added.
