More than 1,000 protesters have taken to the streets in Baltimore in the US after the death of a black man in police custody a week ago.

According to BBC, some protesters smashed car windows of the police and a dozen of them were arrested following disturbances that led police to delay spectators' departure from a baseball game.

Freddie Gray was arrested by police on April 12 and suffered spinal injuries leading to death a week later.

Gray's sister appealed for cal saying that her brother would never want the violence.

Six police officers have been suspended following the death and an internal police investigation is under way.
