A woman in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district has alleged that she suffered a miscarriage after she was repeatedly thrashed by a police inspector at her house.
"My nephew had eloped with a girl from our village. Inspector inquired me about that and thrashed me brutally. I suffered a miscarriage," the victim told ANI on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the husband of the victim also said, "My nephew and the girl had eloped and got married. In connection with that incident, the inspector came and thrashed her, which led to the miscarriage."
Meanwhile, the doctors did not confirm the woman's claim.
"I was told that she has been thrashed. I duly informed the police about it. I can't say if it is a case of miscarriage."
Sambhal Police said they have launched a probe into the matter.
"We have talked to the hospital authority. They told me she was thrashed but did not suffer a miscarriage. This matter is under investigation," Sambhal Police said.
