Three BSF personnel injured in gun battle with smugglers at Indo-Pak border

Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured on Saturday when alleged smugglers fired at a patrol vehicle from across the Indo-Pak border near Amritsar in Punjab.

The BSF has confirmed that Pakistani forces were not involved in the incident which took place near the Daoke Border Out Post (BoP) at around 12:30 a.m.

"When the vehicles of the 163 batallion of the BSF were near the Daoke Post at around 12.30 a.m. this morning, a smuggling attempt took place. There was an exchange of fire from both sides during which three of our jawans were injured," senior BSF commander I. P. Bhatia said.

"All three jawans are out of danger and will recover soon...they fired around 20-22 rounds on us, from our side, we must have fired around 8-10 rounds. We are running a search operation in the area...Smugglers were not backed by the Pakistani Rangers," he added.

Earlier this year, the BSF had reportedly recovered close to 125 kg of heroin along the border in Punjab.
