Time has come to manufacture high-end sensors indigenously: V K Saraswat

Former Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister and Director General of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Dr. V K Saraswat, on Thursday said that India is progressing leaps and bounds in the field of space technology.

Inaugurating a two-day international space conference at Amity University here, he said, "Satellites are being used for national security, environment, conservation of nature and other varied purposes, but still some sensors used in satellites are being imported from other countries."

"Any satellite without sensor is like man without eyes," Dr. Saraswat further stated.

Stating that by the year 2030, India will be the third largest economy of the world, he said that the nation needs to excel not just in the domain of space, but in every industry.

He felt that Indian Scientists can contribute towards bringing the transformation by channelizing their research and development efforts, and thereby, reducing their dependency on foreign technologies.

He said, "The time has come to manufacture high-end sensors indigenously to facilitate research in space and related areas."

Sharing his views on space laws, Dr. Saraswat said, "In today's time, the world is lacking proper framed fundamentals on space security and many developed counties are delaying the process of forming space-linked laws."

Supporting the idea of greater collaboration between government agencies, academic institutions, researchers and scientists, he said that this was the need of the hour to augment and accelerate reseach and development in space technology and allied fields.

The event has been organized by Amity University in association with the Aryavarta Space Organization.
