West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress on Thursday swept the municipal polls in the state capturing all seven civic bodies, where elections were held on August 13.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) finished second in most places, relegating the Left to the third position.
Expressing happiness over the win, TMC leader Derek O'Brien took to Twitter saying, "Clean sweep #BengalMunicipalPolls. Here is the final tally. Bigger win than 2012".
Of a total 148 wards, the Trinamool has won a massive 140 and the BJP six. Meanwhile, the Left's seat was won by the Forward Bloc and the CPM and Congress drew a blank.
The saffron party won six seats in three municipalities, which included four in Dhupguri, North Bengal and one each in Buniyadpur (North Bengal) and Panskura in South Bengal, according to the results of the August 13 civic elections.
The TMC also bagged seats in Panskura and Haldia in East Midnapore district, Nalhati in Birbhum, Buniyadpur in South Dinajpur and Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri districts.
In Haldia municipality also, the TMC got elected in all the 29 seats.
Polling was held in seven ULBs comprising five municipalities of Panskura and Haldia in East Midnapore district, Nalhati in Birbhum, Buniadpur in South Dinajpur and Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri districts, the Durgapur Municipal Corporation (DMC) in Burdwan West district and the Cooper's Camp Notified Authority in Nadia district.
