Tripura Congress leader resigns from CLP post in protest against tie-up with Left in Bengal

Tripura Opposition Leader and Tripura's Congress Legislature Party (CLP) MLA Sudip Roy Barman resigned from the post of Opposition Leader in protest against the Congress-Left Front election alliance in West Bengal and said that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) would have been a better friend.

After the end of the ongoing budget session, the senior Congress leader submitted his resignation to Speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath in presence of two other Congress MLAs.

"In protest against the decision to tie up with the Left parties in West Bengal I have reigned as the CLP leader. I consider it unethical, immoral and everybody knows about the CPIM's treacherous role during the past, unpredictable character and the barbaric character have been committed in West Bengal, Tripura and Kerala," he said.

Terming the AICC's decision of alliance with Left parties as 'choosing wrong friend' and 'TMC' to be a better option the Congress leader said, "We were told by the AICC in the AICC conference that even if there is a tie up or support from outside by the CPIM so far as the central government is concern but there will be all out fight in three states - West Bengal, Tripura and Kerala. But all of a sudden we saw dramatic and drastic change in the party's policy and I felt it would have been unethical to continue with a post as the CLP leader because people are accusing us of our double standard and so I have resigned."

Barman had also sent a resignation letter to the Congress President Sonia Gandhi in which he wrote, "I am extremely shocked and depressed to find that there has been a drastic and dramatic change in our party's policy. I completely failed to understand the reason for the tie up with Left partied in the West Bengal assembly election."

He also expressed his shock on how could a handful Congress leaders were able to Congress High Command for their pretty personal political gains.

Alleging the Congress High Command of double standard by forming alliance with the Left parties Barman in his letter mentioned, "In spite of you understanding of CPIM's unpredictable character, its treacherous role in the past, antinational thinking and activities and the immense barbaric atrocities upon Congressmen in West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura you have given a nod to this so called alliance / seat adjustment / tactical understanding.
