Hundreds of people protested by organising a sit-in in front of the East Agartala Police Station, demanding the arrested of those involved in the suspected honour killing of a local youth.
The protestors alleged that 22-year-old Pritam Roy was killed after the family of his wife refused to accept their marriage.
"An innocent boy has been killed and we want that the mystery of this death is revealed. The circumstance in which the death took place - we are sure that he was murdered. We have gathered here so that an unbiased investigation takes place," said Pankaj Chakraborty, a protestor.
The protestors later dispersed after the police assured them that a thorough investigation would take place in the alleged murder. The police also said that they are waiting for the post-mortem report, which has been sent to Kolkata.
