A 60-year-old tribal woman belonging to the Duraishamrai ADC village, about 20 kilometres from Kamalpur, was shot dead by her relative on suspicion of practicing witchcraft on his children.

The victim, Kanyapati Debbarma, was shot from a close distance with a country-made-gun while she was cooking. Her husband and son were not at home when the crime took place.

The victim's husband lodged a police complaint and in a statement informed that the neighbours often accused his wife of practicing witchcraft.

Her relative Mongal Charan has confessed that he had shot his aunt on suspicion of killing his children by the power of her black magic.

Meanwhile, the Tripura police have detained two suspects based on the statement of the victim's husband.
