Two army soldiers were killed, while a third has been declared missing after their checkpost was hit by an avalanche in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh District.

Heavy snowfall has been reported in the district for the past two days.

Reports quoted Pithoragarh District Magistrate Sushil Kumar, as saying that the mishap took place on Monday at the Sialak border checkpost.

Soldiers of the Kumaon Scouts Regiment were manning the checkpost.

Five soldiers, however, were rescued.
