The militants of the Biswamohand Debbarma fraction deposited one AK-series rifle , one magazine with 16 round ammunition and two Chinese grenade to Tripura's Director General of Police (DGP) K. Nagaraj, at the police headquarters here.
The surrendered NLFT extremists have been identified as Sunil Mohan Tripura (35), self-styled warrant officer and Jatanjoy Tripura.
The militants allegedly fled from their base camp at Chittagong Hill Tract (CHT) in Bangladesh and entered Indian territory through Khanthlang, a hill top hamlet near the Indo-Bangladesh international border in Tripura district, about 230 km from here.
The militants were intending to surrender over a long period of time and to join the main stream of life and finally, they approached Arindam Nath, Superintendent of Police (SP) Special Branch (SB) and Manik Dutta, SI (SB) who had facilitated their surrender.
During the interrogation, Sunil informed that he is a resident of Kukil Mani Para under Dhumacherra police station of Dhalai district and had joined NLFT in 2000, while Jatanjoy a self-styled sepoy is a resident of Gobindabari under Chawmanu PS of the same district and joined NLFT in 2008.
