Unidentified militant killed in Kupwara encounter

An unidentified militant was killed on Wednesday in an encounter with security forces during a joint search operation launched in the Afan area here.

The search operation was reportedly launched this morning after security forces received specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

The militants opened fire on the security forces as they were closing in the positions of the ultras and one militant was shot dead in retaliation.

One AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 60 rounds, four matrix, two cell phones, one GPS and one UBGL grenade have been recovered from the encounter site.
