The Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Tuesday appeared to indicate that they did not find anything new in the joint editorial penned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama which has been published by the Washington Post.
"I think the policy followed by the Congress governments before, it is the same policy and they have followed the same pattern and there is nothing new in this," Congress leader J P Aggarwal told ANI here.
Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Naresh Agarwal said, "We want clarifications from the US about its position on terrorism sponsored by Pakistan and in other parts of India. What is the US doing on these issues? We have been talking with the US for years. Till now, the US has not done anything to strengthen India's position and some way it is keeping a balance between India and Pakistan, and has always strengthened Pakistan's position. If the US indeed wants to curb terrorism, then it has to start from Pakistan, and only then, will terrorism end in the rest of the world."
He also stated that if the US only thinks about its business interests and doesn't help India on others issues, then that won't do any good.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Barack Obama, have in a bylined joint editorial published in the Washington Post on Tuesday, said that the true potential of the India-US relationship has yet to be fully realized.
Hailing the advent of a new government in India, both see it as "a natural opportunity to broaden and deepen their relationship.
