Director of the US intelligence James Clapper has reportedly said that the mega revelations made by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden were 'gut wrenching' and it was difficult to stop such leakers.

Clapper, 72, is the first director to hold the post when the annual intelligence budgets are being slashed instead of fattened and in between the biggest intelligence leaks in the history are witnessed.

According to The Daily Beast, Clapper acknowledged that the very human nature of the bureaucracy he controls virtually insures that more mass disclosures are inevitable.

He said that he was still clueless about why Snowden exposed the state's secrets, adding that in the end, they would never ever be able to guarantee that there will not be an Edward Snowden or another Chelsea Manning because this is a large enterprise composed of human beings with all their idiosyncrasies.

Clapper further that the biggest challenge still remained leakers like Snowden and Chelsea Manning, because to this day, the US government doesn't know the full extent of what the NSA leaker revealed to the Guardian journalist and how much of it has made way into the hands of foreign spies.

He further said that it was still gut wrenching to see all the secrets getting revealed so casually, the report added.
