US urges Pak to facilitate Afghan Govt-Taliban peace talks

The United States has urged Pakistan to continue its efforts to facilitate peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban representatives, despite a change in the Taliban leadership.

According to the BBC, the State Department deputy spokesperson Mark Toner said it was the right time for proceed with the peace talks.

Pakistan had to postpone reconciliation talks after the Taliban announced that its leader Mullah Omar was dead.

Toner said, commenting on the delay in talks, that Pakistan should go forward with the process.
