Australian cricketer Shane Watson announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect following his side's 64-run win over England in the second one day international at Lord's in London.

The 34-year-old confirmed the news, saying that it is the right time to move on and added that coach Darren Lehmann, chief selector Rod Marsh and skipper Steven Smith had supported his decision, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Watson further said that he will continue to play ODI and Twenty20 international for his country.

Watson, who recently scored 34 runs against England in the second ODI, said that he had made every possible efforts to get best out of him for the Test cricket, but he wasn't able to provide much to the team.

Watson appeared in 59 Tests since his debut in 2005 against Pakistan, scoring 3731 runs at an average of 35.19. His highest runs of 176 came against England in 2013.
