Watson urges Australia selectors to show faith in rookies

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has urged the selectors to give some time to the rookies in order to cement their places in the Steven Smith-led squad ahead of the two-Test match series in Bangladesh next month.

The 34-year-old, who was dumped after the first Ashes Test in Cardiff against England, said the selectors have chosen the best players they could pick at this particular point of time and insisted that they need to stick with these new players for some time, Sport24 reported.

Australia are currently in a rebuilding phase following the retirement of senior players like Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin, Chris Rogers and Watson in the wake of Ashes defeat.

Expressing his views on the inclusion of top-order batsman Usman Khawaja in the 15-man squad against Bangladesh, Shane said that the player needs some time to cement his place and improve himself in the game.

According to reports, Australia selectors have been criticised for dropping young players if they fail to perform after few matches.

Australia will play two Tests in Chittagong and Dhaka from October 9 and October 17 respectively.
