West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on Saturday said the central and the state government must jointly look into the issue of cross border infiltration and take all the necessary measures to stop the illegal immigration of Bangladeshi nationals in the state.
"This is a very serious problem. The central and state government must jointly look into it and take all the necessary measures to stop the immigration of Bangladeshis illegally in the state," said Tripathi.
Earlier this week, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested two Bangladeshi nationals, one from West Bengal and the other from Mumbai, in connection with the gang-rape of a 71-year-old nun at a convent school in Nadia district.
The nun was allegedly gang- raped in Ranaghat area of West Bengal's Nadia district when more than ten suspected dacoits entered the Convent of Jesus and Mary.
The incident had sparked widespread condemnation across the country, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announcing a CBI probe into the matter.
