Manchester United failed to reverse their manager Louis van Gaal's mounting woes after going down 2-1 against Danish champions Midtjylland in the first-leg of their Europa League last-32 tie in Herning.
United's Memphis Depay put the visitors ahead in the 37th minute before goals from the talented Pione Sisto and young Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu gave Midtjylland the victory, Sport24 reported.
The defeat has deepened the Old Trafford club's crisis as Van Gaal's side are already lagging behind in their bid to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
Both the sides will play against each other in the second leg at Old Trafford next Thursday.
