Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai on Monday said that the Aam Aadmi Party government in the city will take all necessary steps to ensure that the Delhi Transport Corporation calls off its strike.

Rai was reacting to the DTC union calling a strike for an indefinite period in protest to a bus driver being mercilessly beaten to death in a case of road rage.

"The Delhi government spoke to the mother and the daughter of the deceased DTC bus driver. The Delhi government has decided that it will sponsor the education of the girl and bear the medical expenses of the deceased's mother," Rai told ANI.

"It has been decided that either of them would be offered employment and a relief of Rs five lakh will also be provided. We will take all necessary steps to ensure that the DTC service is resumed from tomorrow," he added.

Earlier on Sunday, a 42-year-old DTC driver was thrashed by a motorcycle rider after his bus grazed the bike from behind in the city's Mundka area.

Following the incident, the AAP government had said that it would provide Rs five lakh compensation to the victim's family. However, the DTC union expressed dissent over the compensation declared.
