Former National Conference (NC) leader Ajatshatru Singh, who officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday, thanked the party for inducting him into its fold, adding that he will work towards achieving 'mission 44' in the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

"I am very thankful to all my leaders that I was given a chance to join the party. Our objective is to win at least 44 seats in the upcoming elections in the state. My only concern is working for Jammu and Kashmir," Ajatshatru told the media here.

Earlier in the day, Ajatshatru, along with his wife Ritu and their son, joined the BJP amidst the presence of party chief Amit Shah and other leaders.

Ajatshatru, who is currently a sitting MLC from Nagrota, is also the grandson of the late Maharaja Hari Singh, the former ruler of Jammu and Kashmir.

The assembly elections in the state is scheduled to be held in five phases - on November 25, December 2, December 9, December 14 and December 20. The counting of votes will be held on December 23.
