Authorities beefed up security as the election cell in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir prepares for Assembly polls.

The assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in five-phases, beginning on November 25 and ending on December 20. The counting of votes will take place on December 23.

As a part of back-up, extra forces arrived in Poonch on Sunday, in wake of the cross border firing to ensure safety and fair elections to be held on December 2.

"We have worked out a contingence plan with other agencies like the police and CID for polling stations near the border. I don't think there will be any problem but if even one percent there is any trouble, we have the plan in hand to take measures," said Assistant Commissioner of Revenue, Mohammad Shafiq.

Meanwhile, in charge of election cell, Sikander Mehmood said that the election preparations have been completed.

"The administration is trying to conduct fair and square and error free elections. For this the admin is working day and night and the election cell is working very hard," he said.

Mehmood also added that if any problem crops up at the border, the polling stations will be shifted to a safer location.
