After their heavy defeat at the hands of India, Australia women's team have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in their final Group-B fixture of the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's World T20.
Richie Richardson, who is one of the Emirates ICC Elite Panelist of Match Referees, imposed the fine after Meg Lanning-led side was ruled to be one over short of their target when time allowances were taken into consideration, according to ICC.
The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Gregory Brathwaite and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sue Redfern and fourth umpire Shaun George.
In accordance with Article 2.22.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the skipper fined double that amount.
As such, Lanning, who pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction after the end of the match, has been fined 20 percent of her match fee, while other players of the side have received a 10 percent fine.
If there is a second minor over-rate offence committed by the Australia in a T20I within 12 months with Lanning as skipper, she will be suspended for one match.
