The Delhi Police on Monday said that they have got a written complaint regarding the threat call received late last night at the CPI (M) office in the national capital, adding that legal action would be initiated accordingly.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jatin Narwal said the calls were as per information received at the landline of the CPI (M) office in Delhi.
"There were three calls made. The name of the leader, Sitaram Yechury, was also taken by the caller. We have got a written complaint and we are acting accordingly. The number has also been disclosed to us. We will be taking legal action now," Narwal told ANI here.
The Delhi office of the CPI (M) allegedly received calls late on Sunday night, threatening party general secretary Sitaram Yechury for supporting the students' protests at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) against the hanging of 2001 Parliament attack accused Afzal Guru.
According to reports, the police has put the call on surveillance.
Yechury, who has been critical of the government's crackdown on the protesting JNU students, had earlier alleged that the BJP was trying to carry forward the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's ideology.
The CPI (M) leader has also demanded that JNU student's union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who is presently in police custody, after being arrested on charges of sedition be released immediately.
