BMW India has rolled out much anticipated luxury saloon, BMW 3 Series GT at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo at Rs. 42.7 Lakhs. It made its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show'13, while is considered to be one of most significant launch from this brand. The saloon has been positioned between 3 Series and 5 Series models existing in the lineup in India. Moreover, it will be manufactured locally so as to keep the cost low and affordable for the buyers.
As far as external dimensions are concerned, the GT model is 200mm longer, 50mm taller and 17mm wider than the regular 3 Series model. The wheelbase has been extended by 110mm, which creates a lot of room inside the car. Specifically for the rear passengers, the extended wheelbase has served to generate better comfort with more legroom and headroom.
Inside the vehicle, the company offers 520-liters of boot capacity, and with the split fold rear seats down the boot space enhances upto 1600-liters. The new GT Series runs over flat tyres instead of full-sized spare wheel. However, when it comes to the styling of the vehicle, the GT shares its design with regular 3 Series sedan and resembles quite a lot on various parts. The changes on the exteriors which makes it distinguishable includes taller and wider front facade, which ultimately made the manufacturers bring many changes across various equipments at its front end. Therefore, it has received redesigned headlamps, low positioned bumper and several others. The new GT 3 Series also features air curtains situated under the front wheels and air breathers behind the front wheel, both together helps in better air ventilation mainly from the wheel arches. It also sports an active rear wing that operates when the car reaches at 100kmph of speed.
Under the hood, the all-new GT 3 Series comes loaded with 2-liter diesel engine producing 184bhp, while the petrol variant gets 2.0-liter motor that is capable of churning 245bhp of power output. BMW also brings a performance oriented variant which gets 3-liter engine which is efficient to generate an impressive power output of 306bhp. For the Indian market, all the three engines are combined with eight-speed automatic transmission.
