BMW has showcased its 5-series sedan at the 2016 Auto Expo. The German carmaker has the sedan running in India and stands against Audi’s A6, Mercedes’ E-class and Jaguar’s XE, which has made its Indian debut at the Expo. The car is lush with modern features inside. It has an i-drive with 25.9cm colour display accompanied by BMW ConnectDrive functions.
The car offers two diesel engine options viz. 1,995cc and 2,993cc. The engine with larger capacity can produce 258 bhp of power at 4,000 rpm with a peak torque of 560 Nm between 1,500-3,000 rpm. It can do a 0-100 kmph sprint in 5.8 seconds and is capable of hitting a top speed of 250 kmph. The mill returns a mileage of 14.7 kmpl. The less powerful engine, on the other hand, delivers a maximum power of 190 bhp with 400 Nm torque. It comes mated to an 8-speed steptronic automatic transmission and can reach 100 kmph from standstill in 7.1 seconds.This powerhouse gives a better fuel mileage of 18.12 kmpl.
On the safety side, 5-series sedan comes with features like Anti-Lock Braking System, Parking Sensors, Crash Sensor and 6 airbags. The car is 4,907mm long, 2,102mm wide and 1,464mm tall. It sits 158mm above the ground, which takes care of the road conditions and also helps in maintaining stability, a key requirement for cars of this segment. The car is priced at Rs. 59,90,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
