In order to celebrate an eco-friendly Ganesh Utsav, Datsun, the subsidiary brand of Nissan partners with United Way of Mumbai to create an awareness in Environment Friendly Ganesh Festival. The campaign titled ‘Greenesha’ or ‘Green Ganesha’ is an awareness program where over 2000 college youth reached out to thousands of Ganesh Mandals to tell them about adopting environment friendly methods of celebrations.

At Ganesh Utsav, every year Mumbaikars celebrate the Ganesh Festival with great anticipation. At the festival, more than 3 lakh Ganesh idols are customary immersed in lakes and beaches which causes water pollution. More than 2000 college students from 20 city colleges reached out to Ganesh Mandals to create awareness by using posters and signing of pledge.

Ms Jayanti Shukla, Executive Director, United Way Of Mumbai explains further “Key differentiators of Greenesha’ campaign from other regular clean-up activities post immersion is it targets Ganesh Mandals to segregate Nirmalya and other decoration materials at source (at Ganesh Mandals) itself and promotes Nirmalaya segregation when the actual immersion is going on – United Way of Mumbai is one of the few organisations which commits itself to this activity and takes it to the level of a 'green movement'. The active involvement of over 2000 students from Mumbai colleges is also a wonderful example of the youth of today wanting to contribute constructively for the betterment of their city.”

Kenichiro Yomura, President – Nissan India operations says, “We are delighted to wholeheartedly support Greenesha and participate in this movement to promote an environment friendly Ganesha festival in Mumbai. Sustainability has always been our prime focus and we are glad to reinforce our commitment towards a sustainable society through this Greenesha campaign. At Nissan, we firmly believe that cars, people and the environment coexist. This campaign promoting green Ganesha through Datsun cars is a testimony to that belief, as we are honored to be part of such a sustainable movement of one of the largest festivals in India.”
