The little wonder from Datsun's stable seems to be piquing interests of many. A press release issued by the Nissan subsidiary confirmed that the redi-GO has received over 10,000 bookings in a span of nearly three months.

Arun Malhotra, managing director, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. said, “Datsun redi-GO is bringing a lot of new energy and freshness to the entry car segment. Its eye-catching design and best-in-class features are getting noticed as more and more customers choose to go with redi-GO”.

The hatchback is labelled as an 'urban cross' that is targeted at the youth. Based on the same platform as Renault's blockbuster Kwid, the Datsun undercuts its cousin on price. “We have started deliveries of redi-GOs this month to customers across the country and are delighted by the way Datsun redi-GO is being embraced by the younger generation in the country”, Arun Malhotra added.

Datsun says that a bulk of the orders received come from metros and Tier 2 cities. "This reflects redi-GO’s ‘urban-cross’ spirit—a unique fusion of compact crossover and hatchback. This combination is resonating with the aspirational and young in India," read the press release.

The Datsun is powered by a 799cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that develops 54PS of power and 72Nm of peak torque. ARAI certified fuel economy is rated at 25.17kmpl, that makes the redi-GO amongst the most fuel efficient petrol cars in the country. The top-spec S (O) variant gets features such as an integrated audio system, driver airbag, air-conditioning and front two power windows.

The redi-GO enters the most fiercely contested segment in the Indian automotive space, battling the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Alto, Hyundai Eon, Tata Nano and the Renault Kwid. Check a quick spec comparo to see how the Datsun's blue-eyed boy fares against established rivals.
