Fiat Tipo is the New Name for the Linea Replacement

A production-spec version of Fiat Egea was showcased in the Istanbul motor show and now it seems, the car has been confirmed for Asian market and will be sold under the nameplate “Tipo”. The successor to Fiat Linea will be sold in the Middle East, African region (EMEA) and Europe with the same moniker. The company has released official videos of the car and reviews of the same have cropped up online.

The “Tipo” nameplate was used by Fiat for a small family hatchback that went on sale in 1988 and  was available in the market up until 1995. Tipo was also winner of ” European Car Of The Year” in 1989 and the company might capitalize on the goodwill garnered by the brand name, while the name “Fiat Egea” will be limited to Turkish market.

The car is expected to feature two petrol variants and two diesel mills, which will offer a power range that falls between 90PS-120PS. The petrol powerplants will come with an option for manual and automatic transmission, whereas the diesel mill will only be available with a manual transmission as of now. 

Dimensionally, the car will be 4.5 m long, 1.78 m wide and 1.48 m tall and will feature a 510 litre boot. Even though Tipo is considerably bigger than Linea, it manages to be lighter than the sedan. Tipo will also come with safety features that include ABS and airbags and creature comforts that include automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, alloy wheels and fog lamps amongst others. Tipo is expected to replace Linea sometime next year.
