Honda Accord to be launched in 2016; Honda Jazz launched in Chennai from Rs.5.40 lacs

Honda has announced that the new Accord will be launched in India in 2016. Speaking to the media, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Sr. Vice President, Marketing and Sales - Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) said at the launch of the new Honda Jazz in Chennai today. He further said that there are no plans on bringing the new Civic to India for now. The new Honda Jazz has been launched in Chennai priced from Rs.5.40 lacs ex-showroom.

The new Honda Jazz will be available with a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine. The power/torque outputs stand at 90 PS/110 Nm and 100 PS/200 Nm respectively. While the petrol engine will be available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox, the diesel engine gets only a 6-speedd manual transmission. The fuel economy of the new Jazz is class leading across every variant with 27.3 km/l, 18.7 km/l and 19 km/l for the diesel, petrol manual and petrol CVT respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Katsushi Inoue, President & CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, “The Jazz is a very successful model around the world with over 5.5 million units sold across 75 countries since the launch of its first generation in 2001. The Jazz has played a significant role in boosting our business globally and I’m confident that it will replicate the same success and delight our customers in India.”

He also said that Honda is happy to renter the B+ segment in India with the new Jazz and HCIL is investing Rs.380 crore more in the company’s Rajasthan plant for additional capacity, aiming for a total capacity of 300,000 units by 2016. Mr. Inoue also said that the total dealership network will be increased to 300 dealerships across 200 cities by 2016.
