Volkswagen has started the deliveries of the new 2015 Passat, the very first car was delivered to a customer in Wolfsburg, Germany. Based on the brand’s new MQB platform, the 2015 Passat adorns a new design inside-out and saves nearly 85 kilos over the current car. India launch is expected early next year as VW India officials recently said that they are keen to bring the new Passat into the country as soon as possible.
The interiors of the 2015 Passat has taken a big leap forward, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrumentation cluster replaces the analog in the outgoing car!
There are plenty of safety and comfort features added in this new eight-gen of Passat. On the outside, it offers LED head and taillamps along with daytime running LEDs.
Speaking of the engines, the 2015 Passat will be offered with 10 engine options globally. The lineup include turbocharged TSI petrol and TDI diesel motors. Starting with the diesel, the new Passat gets the most common 2.0 TDI (powering Octavia’s to A6’s under VW umbrella). This 2.0 TDI turbo diesel gathers a healthy 148 bhp and 340 Nm of peak torque.
The highlight of this next-gen Passat launch is the introduction of a brand new twin turbocharged version of the 2.0 liter TDI with it. This twin-turbo oil burner chucks out 236 bhp and 500 Nm of max torque, making the saloon reach a top whack of 240km/h. Indian version is likely to get the turbocharged 2.0 TDI only and will be mated to a dual-clutch DSG automatic gearbox.
