Tomorrow on 19th November, 2014, Mini will launch the next generation models including first of its kind 5-Door model and a complete new range of Mini’s which will replace the current 3-door Cooper model. The updated model will be available in both Cooper and Cooper S trims and rumor has it that the company will also bring a diesel variant of its 5-Door hatch.
The updated Mini is the first model to use the company’s front wheel drive UKL architecture and is now 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm taller than the outgoing model. To add more to comfort, the wheelbase is also extended by 28mm. Moreover, the dimensions of 5-Door model stands at 4,005mm long, 1,727mm wide and 1,425mm in height. When compared with 3-door hatch, the model is 162mm longer and 11mm taller, while the wheelbase is extended to 72mm resulting in a larger cabin and comfortable ride.
Mechanically, the hatch embraces BMW’s twin-turbo technology equipped 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder engines. The Cooper model is powered by a 3-cylinder, 1.5-litre engine which churns a max power of 135.1bhp and peak torque of 220Nm. While the Cooper S houses 2.0-litre 4-cylinder mill that musters an output of 191.4bhp with peak torque of 280Nm. The company is also planning to introduce Cooper SD model which delivers a power output of 167.7bhp and 360Nm max. torque. All the engines are coupled to new set of six-speed gearboxes, including a six-speed manual, six-speed Steptronic and a Steptronic sports transmission.
